Gratituesday

Today's Gratituesday is a bit of an odd one. I was in a rush to get out the door Monday morning. I made it to the car and my 13 year old goes where's Zaiah. I had left my almost 4 month old laying on my bed and had ran out the door and locked it.

Normally this would not be the end of the world, but we couldn't find hubby's keys and so he took my keys and left me with only the van key because he was going to be home before me. Reality sank in, I had locked my baby in the house and I had no way to get to him. I frantically ran to the front door and tried to open it, knowing very well it wouldn't happen. I was told never to replace our front door because it had an old lock that couldn't be bumped. Anyway, the door to the deck was locked also. I went around to the side of our house where I knew one of our screens would easily pop out. I got the screen out, but then the window even though unlocked wouldn't open.

By this time I was thinking what a horrible mother I was. The next thing I realize is that the older kids are nowhere in sight and both toddlers are sitting on the drive way looking at me like I'm crazy. I walk around to the back of the house only to see the back door (not the deck door) open. I call the older kids out to watch the toddlers and try to make my way through the dark basement. I make it up the stairs only to realize that the door that is into the house from the basement is locked.

At this point I didn't care, I ran at the door and shocking the door popped open after the second try. I could see my bed from the door and there was Isaiah, with a little grin on his face. He has no clue how scatter brained his momma can be.

Anyway, I'm grateful this week that the back door had accidentally been unlocked and for the fact that the door frame popped off so easily. I'm thankful to know that my little man wasn't traumatized. I'm thankful that I can laugh about it now. I'm thankful that the door frame should be easily fixed. I'm thankful for a loving Father who knew exactly what would happen and that he allowed it to work out in the way it did. I'm thankful for a smart daughter who though to try the back door that we always keep locked. I'm thankful for my children and the ability to love them even when my brain doesn't function 100%. I'm thankful for the ability to learn from my mistakes.

Oh my...we've all done things like that...but it sure doesn't feel very good. So glad you were able to get into him and that he wasn't sad or hurt! This reminds me of something I did a few months ago...I posted about it then, but maybe I'll re-post it soon. (Uh, just to make you feel better...) :)

Just yesterday I thought my 12 month old escaped the house. I couldn't find her anywhere! (Ended up she had gone to my bedroom and shut the door...) Such a scary feeling! So glad everything turned out alright!

Praise God everything turned out okay! While I am not yet a mother, I have experienced things like this being the oldest child in my family. I always found it was God's way of telling me to slow down (or to do a better job of watching my younger siblings!)

One time my youngest brother (he was about three years old) decided to walk to our neighbors house for cookies. Not a bad thing, except it was the middle of winter and our neighbor lived a half mile away on a BUSY highway! By the time we realized he was missing, the neighbor had called to ask us if we were missing someone. We can all look back and laugh at it now, but it was very hard at the time!!!!

Blessings to you and your family
